Elio de Angelis was an Italian Formula One driver who competed in the sport from 1979 to 1986. He was born on March 26, 1958 in Rome, Italy and began his racing career in karting before progressing to Formula Three and eventually Formula One.
De Angelis made his Formula One debut in 1979 driving for the Shadow team before moving to the Lotus team in 1980, where he achieved his greatest success. He won two Grand Prix races during his career, the 1982 Austrian Grand Prix and the 1985 San Marino Grand Prix.
Known as a skilled driver with strong technical knowledge, de Angelis was highly respected by his colleagues and team members. He was also known for his calm and composed demeanor both on and off the track.
Tragically, de Angelis lost his life in a testing accident at the Paul Ricard circuit in France in 1986. His untimely death was a great loss to the Formula One community, and he is remembered as a talented and promising driver whose career was cut short.
